Technical Description of Split Polarizing Camera

Appearance: The Split Polarizing Camera is a DSLR camera with a polarized flash unit and a polarizing filter covering the lens. The polarizing filter is split, such that half of it passes the circularly polarized light and the other half the parallel polarized light.

Components: It consists of a camera, a lens, a flash, and a polarizing filters covering the light and the lens in different configurations. The lens is surrounded by a flash; it is fitted with polarizing filters that cover both the flash and the lens in specific orientations. The mechanism of the split polarized camera is combining linear and circular polarizers configured to orient incoherent light into two separate coherent polarization states.

Configuration: The polarizers are configured as follows:

·        Linear polarizer covers the flash

·        A split circular polarizer cover the lens,

Sequence: The linear polarizer first orients the light into two compartments, P and S where it reflects off the skin and returns to the camera. Next it passes through the circular polarizer, converting the wave into a corkscrew shape (cross-polarized half), and a parallel crossed pattern.
